My goal this past week was, in a word, everything. I would write down every last thing I ate, to see how many calories I really, truly, really, really, really ate.

And it wasn't 1,600.

Most days it was around 1,800 with some days closer to 2,000. Which is perfect if I'm trying to lose weight but not if I'm trying to lose weight.

This may sound idiotic but grapefruit has calories! And so do green beans and broccoli! Those were the kinds of foods that didn't register on my calorie radar and this past week they did. So did my 122 calories of nutritional supplements.

I've also had my Bodymedia FIT strapped to my left triceps all week -- even when I sleep. And while it says I had enough activity to run a caloric deficit , the scale didn't budge.

But no worries!

Obviously I have to do something different to get the scale to move, so this week I'll continue the Everything Project but I'll dial down the meals to get my calorie count closer to 1,500 to 1,600 calories. I'm also going to amp up the walking workouts (with my new Nikes!) and add more strength training.

If you've ever wondered why you can't lose weight, try writing down EVERYTHING. You may be surprised -- I certainly was.
